Mar Thoma Pontifical Shrine

This monument is dedicated to St. Thomas and is situated at Marthoma Nagar, Azhikode, Kodungallur, which is 40 km from Trichur town. The shrine is built in the model of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and is a historic pilgrim centre of the Indian Christians. Situated on the beautiful banks of the river Periyar, this religious destination conducts daily masses and Novena.

Our Lady of Lourdes Metropolitan Cathedral

Dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, this church lies in the heart of the city. Featuring an Indo- European façade, it is one of the largest churches in India. Established in 1887, the cathedral has an underground shrine which is a masterpiece of architectural design.

Palayur Church

One of the ancient churches in Kerala, the Palayur Church is one among the seven churches established by the Apostle, St. Thomas. It is situated at Chavakkad, which is 25 km from Thrissur along the Thrissur-Guruvayoor route. This Catholic Syrian church is noted for its unique architectural style and portrayal of St. Thomas’ illustrious life. At the entrance of the church, one can see 14 granite life-size statues of various scenes from the life of St. Thomas, and a silver statue of the saint on the roof. 'Palayur Mahatheerthadanam', is an important pilgrimage to this church, wherein the devotees walk all the way from Thrissur to Palayur church carrying wooden crosses. Other events celebrated here are Muppittu Njayar, Thukharana Thirunal and Tharpana Thirunal.

Shrine Basilica of Our lady of Dolours

This is said to be the biggest and tallest church in Asia, occupying about 25,000 square feet area. Also known as ‘Puthan Pally’, the church is built in Indo- Gothic style. It is situated in the heart of the city. The church was consecrated in the year1940 and was elevated to the status of a Minor Basilica in 1992. An important feature here is the 260 feet high Bible tower at the back of the church. This tower portrays the whole life of Jesus and is the first Christian art gallery in Kerala. Working hours of the bible tower is from 10 AM to 6 PM, from Tuesday to Friday and from 10 AM to 7.30 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. The tower remains closed on Mondays.

Saint Thomas Church, Aranattukara

Aranattukara is a small town in Thrissur, famous for the St. Thomas Church. Aranuttakara Perunnal, held on the first Sunday of the year annually, attracts visitors.
